How to Use Cheat Engine With Chrome: Hacking Into Flash Games on Facebook

If you haven’t already, download Cheat Engine. Cheat Engine is an open-source tool that allows you to scan and change memory allocated by a process, which comes mighty useful if you’d like to cheat some games. With all the craze about the Flash games on Facebook, I’ll explain the initial steps you need to take to “hook” into a game. While you can use any browser, I picked Chrome just because it’s very easy to find the process you need in Cheat Engine. So, let’s start!
Open Chrome, login to Facebook and start a flash game – for instance, FarmVille or CityVille. Go to Tools > Task Manager:
Tools > Task Manager in Chrome
Tools > Task Manager in Chrome
Right-click anywhere in Task Manager and check off Process ID:

Note the Process ID of the Plug-in: Shockwave Flash task, open Calculator in Programmer mode, make sure Dec is selected and punch it in. Now, switch to Hex mode.

Open Cheat Engine – I’m using version 6.2, the latest at the time of this post – and click on the Select Process button on the toolbar. Now, locate the chrome.exe process – there will be multiple processes, we want the one prefixed with the Process ID obtained above. In this example, it is 00010844-chrome.exe:
Select the Correct Process in Cheat Engine

Cheat Engine is now hooked into the Flash process has access to the memory allocated by it. It will update the results in real time as values change and you have write access, too!
